Sonia: Why?

Vivian: That's a good question. Patients with hepatitis C often become depressed. This happens not only from the hepatitis C, but also from the treatment. Reassure patient that depressed feelings are common. So, we need to manage any risks for depression at the same time that we treat hepatitis C. How does that sound to you?

Sonia: It makes sense, but what do you do? Do I have to see a psychiatrist?

Vivian: Some of our patients do decide to get help, either by seeing a therapist or by joining self help groups, Reassure patient that depressed feelings are common. but we are often able to manage depression right here in the clinic. Everyone is different. What we need to do is learn more about you, then find what will work best. Our goal is to work with you and help you make good decisions for yourself regarding your treatment options.

Sonia: Oh, that's great. That makes me feel a lot better.
