As you have seen, undergoing treatment for hepatitis C can be stressful for patients. While this is certainly true of any chronic disease, it is especially relevant to our patients since both hepatitis C and mental depression treatments are complex. Besides taking medication, there are many things that patients can do to help them get through the stresses of antiviral therapy and avoid developing mental depression. Our focus has to be not only on providing medication when needed, but also on informing patients about non-pharmacological therapy. Additionally, as healthcare providers, we can support our patients by talking openly with them about their concerns, symptoms, and any other issues that they have. By doing so, we can build a strong patient-healthcare provider relationship that helps patients successfully complete their antviral therapy.
