Vivian: Hello, William. Earlier I asked you a lot about your physical health, but your mental health is important too. Depression is common in people with hepatitis C, and hepatitis C treatments can also cause depression. Our goal is to manage depression at the same time that we treat the hepatitis C. To do that, I need to ask you a few questions about your emotional and mental health. Is that okay?

William: Sure

Vivian: Do you have any history of emotional problems or mental illness?

William: No, not really. Well, except for one time when I lost my job. There were a few months when I felt depressed and out of sorts, and I really didn't enjoy much of anything.

Vivian: Did you seek any help?

William: I went to a psychologist for a little while. I think he said I was depressed, but it wasn't severe.
