Vivian: Do you remember how long it was before you started to feel better?

Sonia: I don't know. I guess it was a few months, not too long, although it did feel bad.

Vivian: Okay, what about your family? Has anyone in your family ever had any serious emotional problems, or has anyone in your family ever abused drugs?

Sonia: My mother had a lot of problems with her emotions that affected her health, I guess. She was often depressed and would just lie in her bed. She went to therapists and was on medication for several years.

Vivian: Did anyone have any problems with alcohol or drugs?

Sonia: Well, my dad drank a lot. My brother had trouble with drugs in high school and college, but he's fine now. He lives far away now, but has a family and a job. It looks like he got control of the problem. My sister never really had any problems with either drugs or alcohol.
