High suicide ideation
Patients who are suicidal require careful assessment. If the provider determines that the patient is at high risk for suicide (has a plan, means, and opportunity), this constitutes an emergency situation. Under no circumstances should the patient be left alone. Immediate intervention should occur, and at times this may mean calling 911 for assistance or contacting an in-house crisis intervention specialist or team.
