Depression Screening Instruments

Depression Screening Instruments Overview
A validated screening tool should be filled out prior to, or during, each clinical visit. Results of the screening should be available to the clinician and discussed with the patient.

There are several effective screening instruments used to identify and follow depression in clinical settings:

•  Beck Depression Inventory (BDI)
•  Zung Depression Rating Scale (Zung)
•  Primary Care Evaluation of Mental Disorders—depression questions (PRIME-MD)
